The Rival is an ancient elder primate Titan of Kong's species (*Titanus Kong*), featured prominently in the canon graphic novel *Godzilla Dominion* (2021). In the prehistoric past millennia before human civilization, when Godzilla was younger, smaller, and had not yet reached his full adult mass, The Rival was a seasoned, battle-hardened elder primate. Possessing supreme physical brawn and tactical intelligence, The Rival fought and decisively defeated the future King of the Monsters, evicting Godzilla from his ancestral subterranean temple lair. Millennia later, when an exhausted Godzilla returned to the sunken citadel to reclaim his old territory, he discovered that The Rival had perished long ago, ambushed in his sleep by the serpentine sea Titan Tiamat.
