Super X2 (Heisei)
Super X2 (Heisei)
The Unmanned Remote-Piloted Warship Super X2 (スーパーX2, Sūpā Ekkusu Tsū — Super X-II) represents a monumental technological leap forward for the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF), debuting in Kazuki Omori's blockbuster *Godzilla vs. Biollante* (1989). Commissioned to eliminate the fatal vulnerability of its predecessor—the original Super X (1984), which was crushed beneath a skyscraper with the tragic loss of its entire flight crew—the Super X2 was engineered as an entirely unmanned combat platform tele-operated via encrypted satellite uplinks and optical fiber networks from a subterranean command bunker deep beneath Tokyo. The crowning technological marvel of the Super X2 was its legendary "Fire Mirror" (ファイヤー・ミラー, Faiyā Mirā)—a concave dish coated in ultra-resilient synthetic diamond housed within the clamshell nose of the fuselage. When facing Godzilla, the forward prow splits open, absorbing the titan's thermonuclear breath directly without vaporizing. The mirror’s specialized optical arrays focus and magnify the absorbed photon beam by a factor of 10,000, discharging it back as a devastating golden plasma blast. Piloted with supreme tactical flair by young Lieutenant Sho Kuroki, the Super X2 engaged Godzilla in legendary aerial duels across the Uraga Channel and the metropolis of Osaka.
