The Mire Squid (scientific classification: *Gigantus Leviapus*) is a colossal freshwater cephalopod superspecies (Megalopod) dominating the deep murky lake beds and marshland estuaries of Skull Island in the MonsterVerse. Blending physical traits of a giant squid and an ancient octopus, with sprawling muscular tentacles extending over 27 meters, the Mire Squid represents the apex aquatic ambush threat across the island's inland waterways. Its tentacles are lined with circular rows of serrated chitinous suction teeth capable of tearing through dense hide, enclosing a colossal parrot-like beak with bone-crushing leverage. During the 1973 expedition, a Mire Squid ambushed Kong while the protector was drinking from a river, initiating a brutal struggle before Kong overpowered the beast, crushed its mantle, and consumed its tentacles.
