Showa Kumonga (クモンガ, Kumonga — designated as Spiga in international English releases) is the premier giant predatory arachnid of Toho's golden tokusatsu era. Debuting in director Jun Fukuda's tropical survival adventure *Son of Godzilla* (1967 — *Kaijūtō no Kessen: Gojira no Musuko*) featuring landmark puppet wirework by special effects directors Sadamasa Arikawa and Eiji Tsuburaya, Kumonga is an ancient carnivorous predator awakened from deep hibernation in a mist-shrouded valley on Solgell Island. Standing 45 meters tall, weighing 8,000 metric tons, and possessing a colossal 90-meter leg span with yellow-and-black warning coloration, Kumonga reigns as a terrifying ambush predator. Armed with high-pressure adhesive silk webbing capable of entangling titans and a retractable neurotoxic stinger dart fired from its mandibles, Kumonga proved a lethal adversary even for Godzilla. Returning in *Destroy All Monsters* (1968), Kumonga secured sanctuary on Monsterland and played an instrumental role in the battle of Mount Fuji, teaming with Mothra to encase King Ghidorah in an inescapable cocoon of silk.

Kumonga (Singular Point) represents an audacious reimagining of Toho's classic giant spider (originally introduced in *Son of Godzilla*, 1967) within the hard sci-fi framework of *Godzilla Singular Point* (2021). Instead of simply enlarging an ordinary spider, this 2021 incarnation portrays Kumonga as a terrifying polymorphic arthropod taxon (species-based kaiju) composed of four closely linked morphogenetic variants: standard spider form **Kumonga scytodes**, jumping sickle-legged variant **Kamanga** (*Kumonga falcipes*), winged aerial variant **Hanenga** (*Kumonga alatus*), and apex composite form **Zenbunga** (*Kumonga ultima*). Designed with biological precision by Eiji Yamamori, the standard Kumonga specimen measures **2.8 meters** in total body length, featuring segmented chitinous armor, multi-faceted predatory eyes, and razor-tipped legs capable of piercing concrete. Its most horrifying attribute is its extraordinary vitality: filled with bioluminescent blue hemolymph fluid, specimens cut cleanly in half continue crawling, lunging, and snapping at adversaries with relentless mechanical reflex. Infesting the waterlogged cargo holds of an abandoned vessel and an adjacent lumber facility in Meguro where a deceased Manda washed ashore, the Kumonga swarm blankets structures in adhesive webbing and traps human victims. There, they engage in a desperate close-quarters struggle against Otaki Factory specialists Yun Arikawa, Haberu, and Goro Otaki piloting Jet Jaguar, newly armed with the devastating Anguirus Spear.
