Showa Gigan (サイボーグ怪獣 ガイガン, Saibōgu Kaiju Gaigan — The Cybernetic Monster) stands as one of the most vicious, sadistic, and iconically designed kaiju villains in Toho cinematic history. Making his historic debut in director Jun Fukuda's *Godzilla vs. Gigan* (1972) and returning in *Godzilla vs. Megalon* (1973), Gigan achieved instant infamy as the very first monster on screen to slice through Godzilla's impenetrable hide and draw copious amounts of blood. Engineered by the insidious cockroach aliens of the M Space Hunter Nebula, Gigan is a terrifying bionic synthesis of an extraterrestrial predatory avian reptile and heavy industrial military hardware. Bristling with a terrifying chest buzzsaw that grinds opponents at high RPMs, curved hammer-claw scythes in place of hands, a crimson ocular visor, and triple dorsal sails granting Mach 3 atmospheric flight, Gigan waged ruthless wars of terror across Earth alongside King Ghidorah and Megalon.
