Daigoro of the Showa era (怪獣 ダイゴロウ, Kaijū Daigorō — Monster Daigoro / The Boxing Dinosaur) is one of the most endearing, benevolent, and delightful family-oriented kaiju characters in Japanese cinema, headlining the landmark theatrical feature *Daigoro vs. Goliath* (1972 — 怪獣大奮戦 ダイゴロウ対ゴリアス, *Kaijū Daifunsen: Daigorō tai Goriasu*), co-produced by Tsuburaya Productions and released by Toho to celebrate Tsuburaya's 10th anniversary. Unlike malevolent city-destroying abominations, Daigoro is a gentle orphaned bipedal dinosaur whose mother was killed in a military operation. Adopted by a ragtag group of kindhearted Japanese youths and sheltered in a coastal Tokyo park, Daigoro grew into an enormous 35-meter, 7,000-ton titan with an insatiable appetite that strained national municipal budgets. When a meteor crashed on the Japanese coast, releasing the tyrannical horned space monster Goliath, Daigoro underwent intensive heavyweight boxing and physical training under his human coach, bravely stepping into the ring to unleash scorching flame breath, shatter Goliath's horn, and protect the human community who loved him.
