Battra (バトラ, Batora — Battle Mothra) is one of the most visually fearsome, philosophically intricate, and tragically heroic titans of the Heisei era, debuting in Toho's blockbuster smash hit *Godzilla vs. Mothra* (1992), directed by Takao Okawara with special effects by Koichi Kawakita. Serving as the aggressive, punitive counterpart to the benevolent Mothra, Battra was created twelve millennia ago by the living consciousness of Earth itself as a ruthless immunological defense mechanism engineered to eradicate threats to the global biosphere. Possessing two distinct combat forms, Battra manifests initially as a 90-meter spiky, armored subterranean caterpillar (Larva Form) capable of burrowing through tectonic magma plates and firing electrical horn discharges, before undergoing rapid metamorphosis into a 73-meter dark battle moth (Imago Form) spanning 180 meters across jagged crimson-and-black wings. Armed with lethal optical Prism Beams that curve in mid-air, Battra initially waged war against both humanity and Godzilla, before finding spiritual communion with Mothra and sacrificing his life in Yokohama to haul Godzilla into the ocean abyss.
