Showa Baragon (地底怪獣 バラゴン, Chitei Kaijū Baragon — The Subterranean Monster) is one of the most charming, expressive, and structurally celebrated prehistoric kaiju in Toho's golden pantheon. Introduced in director Ishirō Honda's acclaimed 1965 sci-fi monster classic *Frankenstein vs. Baragon* (*Frankenstein Conquers the World*) and returning in the legendary epic *Destroy All Monsters* (1968), Baragon is a surviving Mesozoic reptilian subterranean creature adapted to subterranean volcanic caverns. Standing 25 meters tall and weighing 250 metric tons, Baragon maneuvers on all fours with remarkable agility, utilizing foldable ears to shield his sensory organs during subterranean tunneling, a brilliant amber-glowing nasal horn that acts as an underground searchlight, and a devastating Magma Heat Ray capable of melting rock and incinerating barricades. From his fierce woodland clash against Frankenstein to his peaceful sanctuary life on Monsterland, Baragon remains a timeless cornerstone of classic tokusatsu history.

Baragon in *Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack* (GMK 2001) is the revered Guardian Beast of Earth (地の神 Chi no Kami / Komainu), standing as the first sacred protector to awaken against the vengeful white-eyed ghost titan Godzilla. Far removed from his Showa subterranean dinosaur depiction, this incarnation is an ancient divine spirit of Japan's soil, slumbering for millennia inside Mount Myoko in Niigata Prefecture. Clad in reddish-brown reptilian hide with expressive floppy ears and a glowing amber horn, Baragon bravely confronted Godzilla in the sulfuric Owakudani valley of Hakone. Despite standing half of Godzilla's stature, Baragon demonstrated fearless valor, utilizing subterranean tunneling and desperate aerial leaps to defend the land before succumbing to a catastrophic mushroom-cloud atomic blast.
