Tail Strike

Godzilla possesses an exceptionally long and heavily muscled tail whose thick base is integrated with the powerful musculature of his hips and lower torso. This allows him to drive much of his body mass into a swing rather than relying solely on the muscles of the tail itself. The appendage assists with balance on land and propulsion and steering underwater, but in combat it becomes a wide-reaching weapon particularly effective against enemies approaching from the rear or flank.

The tail also exhibits considerable flexibility. During the Tasman Sea battle with Kong, Godzilla wrapped it around the ape and dragged him deeper underwater, demonstrating that it can be used not only for sweeping blows but also for grappling and restraint.

Godzilla's most famous tail strike occurred during the 2014 San Francisco battle. When the Male MUTO attacked him from behind, Godzilla pivoted and delivered a massive swing that hurled the flying Titan into a skyscraper, where it was fatally impaled against the structure. The attack remains one of MonsterVerse Godzilla's clearest examples of converting his immense body mass into lethal blunt-force trauma.

In Godzilla vs. Kong, his tail served both offensive and grappling roles. At sea, he wrapped it around Kong and attempted to drag him into the depths, exploiting Godzilla's superior aquatic mobility. During the Hong Kong battle, he also struck Kong with his tail as part of an increasingly aggressive close-quarters assault involving bites, tackles, stomps, and claw attacks.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire gives the Evolved Godzilla a far more dangerous-looking tail, but canon should be stated carefully. The film does not clearly depict Godzilla landing a confirmed thagomizer strike on Shimo. His exchanges with Shimo consist primarily of tackles, grappling, physical clashes, and atomic attacks. The prominent tail strike during the Rio battle is instead delivered against the Skar King, knocking him back toward Kong.

After absorbing the immense energy stored within Tiamat's Arctic lair, Godzilla undergoes a major biological transformation. Among the most visible changes is a cluster of pointed plates at the end of his tail resembling a thagomizer. Like his redesigned dorsal plates, these structures participate in the magenta bioluminescent response of his Evolved state.

MonsterVerse supplementary material describes Godzilla's self-directed evolution as being capable of redistributing biological mass into structures useful against major threats, explicitly including the formation of the thagomizer. Anatomically, this upgrade could transform a tail strike from a purely concussive attack into one potentially capable of piercing, hooking, or tearing an opponent.

Nevertheless, The New Empire does not yet provide a direct demonstration of the thagomizer impaling or cutting another Titan. Its precise offensive capacity therefore remains unquantified in canon. Even without such a feat, its emergence illustrates the central principle of Evolved Godzilla: his transformation does not merely increase his energy reserves, but reshapes his body into an increasingly specialized weapon.
