Energy Absorption

MonsterVerse Godzilla possesses a bio-atomic physiology in which radiation functions as a primary source of nourishment and usable biological energy. His body can absorb radiation from natural deposits, nuclear reactors, and thermonuclear weapons and subsequently convert it into metabolic power, regenerative capacity, physical endurance, and fuel for attacks such as the Atomic Breath and Nuclear Pulse.

Energy absorption should nevertheless be distinguished from unrestricted energy draining. Canon most clearly establishes his affinity for radiation and certain Titan-related forms of energy rather than an ability to automatically absorb every attack directed at him.

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Serizawa's nuclear warhead provides Godzilla with an enormous radiation influx. This not only restores him from the damage caused by the Oxygen Destroyer but leaves his internal nuclear reserves continuing to rise toward a dangerous critical state.

Mothra's death introduces a second and highly unusual form of energy transfer. Her essence is absorbed into Godzilla, contributing to his transformation into Burning Godzilla and manifesting through the Mothra-shaped nuclear pulses that he later unleashes against Ghidorah. This provides strong evidence that Godzilla can under specific circumstances integrate energy originating from another Titan.

The opening material of Godzilla vs. Kong additionally identifies Godzilla as capable of absorbing energy from other sources and enemies during battle. The film itself does not depict him draining an opponent in the direct manner demonstrated by Ghidorah, however, so the exact combat application of this statement remains undefined.

Godzilla's energy-processing capabilities become especially prominent in The New Empire. Preparing for an approaching threat, he attacks a nuclear facility in France and visibly siphons its radioactive energy into himself, entering a heavily energized state. He then travels to Tiamat's Arctic territory, whose lair contains an extraordinary concentration of energy associated with electromagnetic solar activity.

After killing Tiamat, Godzilla occupies the lair and continues absorbing its accumulated energy while undergoing metamorphosis inside the ice. Supporting material associated with the film's novelization indicates that his post-evolution energy profile includes characteristics belonging to Tiamat and that he appears to have incorporated some of her DNA. The transformation can therefore be interpreted as more than simple refueling: it involves the integration of external energy and potentially Titan biological material into Godzilla's own physiology.

Absorbed energy can restore Godzilla's condition, replenish stamina, power his Atomic Breath, fuel Nuclear Pulses, create temporary supercharged states, and provide the energetic foundation required for large-scale physiological evolution. His body therefore functions as a biological cycle of absorption, storage, conversion, and release.

That storage system is not necessarily limitless. In 2019, excessive nuclear energy pushed Godzilla toward a thermonuclear state, while prolonged combat without sufficient nourishment can leave him depleted. Energy absorption is consequently both the foundation of his extraordinary power and a mechanism that must remain balanced within his Titan physiology.
