TITAN POWER PROFILEClaw Combat

Claw Combat

Godzilla is an exceptionally experienced close-quarters fighter who combines claws, arms, shoulders, jaws, feet, and sheer body mass into a brutal grappling style. His battles with MUTO Prime, Ghidorah, Kong, Scylla, and Shimo demonstrate that he remains tremendously dangerous even without relying on his atomic breath.

Canon Lore

Claws and forelimb structure

Godzilla's arms are proportionally shorter than those of humanoid Titans such as Kong, but they are heavily muscled and terminate in claws capable of injuring other Titans. From King of the Monsters onward, his claws are longer and more curved than in 2014, accompanying broader improvements in his physical build following the events of Aftershock.

His Evolved form further enlarges and lengthens the arms while adding prominent elbow spikes. These anatomical changes make the forelimbs increasingly effective for grabbing, pushing, restraining, and controlling opponents during close-range exchanges.

Close-quarters fighting style

MonsterVerse Godzilla's movement and fighting behavior drew inspiration from large animals such as bears and Komodo dragons as well as sumo wrestling. Accordingly, he does not fight like a humanoid martial artist. His style revolves around an extremely stable center of gravity, immense body mass, explosive charges, shoulder impacts, grappling, bites, claws, stomps, and throws.

Godzilla frequently advances directly into an opponent's attack range so that the encounter becomes a contest of mass and strength. Once contact is established, he can use his entire body to drive an enemy backward or force it into a vulnerable position for his jaws, claws, tail, or atomic breath.

Aftershock – MUTO Prime

Godzilla: Aftershock provides an important demonstration of his claws against MUTO Prime, a predator biologically specialized to combat members of Godzilla's species. During one confrontation, MUTO Prime overpowers Godzilla and attempts to position itself to implant its parasitic offspring. Godzilla slashes the creature's head with his claws, forcing it away from him.

The wider battle also illustrates his ability to survive punishing close combat and capitalize on openings. Although MUTO Prime's forelimbs repeatedly knock him down, Godzilla eventually exploits the creature's incapacitation, uses a nuclear pulse to overturn it, and kills it by crushing its head beneath his foot.

Ghidorah and Kong

During the 2019 Boston battle, Godzilla repeatedly closes on Ghidorah with charges, tackles, and grappling exchanges, at times driving the three-headed Titan bodily through surrounding structures. Although Ghidorah possesses three independently attacking necks, wings, and superior aerial mobility, Godzilla consistently attempts to reduce the battle to direct physical confrontation.

His close-quarters ferocity is especially apparent in Godzilla vs. Kong. Kong is quicker, possesses longer arms, and can use tools, initially giving him greater technical flexibility. As the Hong Kong battle escalates, however, Godzilla adopts a more animalistic four-legged pursuit and overwhelms Kong with a sequence of bites, clawing motions, body checks, and stomps. When Kong climbs onto his back, Godzilla bites his hand and throws him down before ultimately pinning the exhausted ape beneath his foot.

Scylla and Shimo – Evolved-era combat

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire further emphasizes body-based attacks. Against Scylla in Rome, Godzilla charges directly into the Titan, evades her attack, and uses a powerful shoulder bash to break her posture before pinning her and finishing the battle with atomic breath.

As Evolved Godzilla, he repeatedly engages Shimo at point-blank range in both the Hollow Earth and Rio. He tackles, kicks, and collides with the larger Titan in prolonged physical exchanges. Shimo is powerful enough to win certain pushing contests and even bite and throw Godzilla across the city, yet he repeatedly returns to the engagement and uses further tackles to keep her away from Kong.

Godzilla's ability to remain competitive in close combat against an opponent as physically formidable as Shimo demonstrates that his effectiveness cannot be reduced to raw strength alone. Experience, aggression, balance, durability, and an instinctive understanding of leverage make him one of the MonsterVerse's most dangerous grapplers.
